Sleep and Its Importance in Ayurveda

Sleep or Nidra is also one among the 3 pillars of ayurveda, without sleep the body wont work optimally.Sleep controls so many functions in our body, it refreshes and detoxifies our body on a daily basis.

Like a proper diet proper sleep is also significant in our life. A proper sleep is essential to maintain oru metabolic rate and it is also necessary for learning and memory consolidation.

A normal adult should sleep around 7-8 hours a day but not only quantity is essential but quality of the sleep too. If the sleep quality is poor it will lead to several physical and mental abnormalities.

Ayurveda tells us that nidra gives us sukha(comfort),pushti(growth),balam(strength),smruti vardhanam(increase in memory power),rasayanam(rejuvination). Although improper sleep leads to the exact opposite of all aforementioned benefits.

So whatever you do in your day, be in your bed at night to get a proper sleep.
